- Generally it means "ancient history", and may be used of any period before the Middle Ages.
- Most commonly it means the classical antiquity of Greece and Rome.
- It may also be used to refer to various periods of ancient history, like Ancient Egypt, ancient Mesopotamia or other early civilizations of the Near East. It is less commonly seen for civilizations of the Far East.
- The term may also be used of archaeological objects from ancient cultures.
- Antiquity (journal) is also the name of a quarterly journal of archaeological research. [1] (http://antiquity.ac.uk/)
