Anne Hebert
Anne Hébert (August 1, 1916 - January 22, 2000) was a Canadian author and poet.
Anne Hébert was born in Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault, Quebec. Encouraged by her father, she began writing poetry and stories while still quite young. In 1954, she moved to Paris but continued to return to Quebec, which is the inspiration for much of her work. She died of bone cancer in Montreal, Quebec at the age of 83.
In 1968 she was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
Originally written in French, her work has been translated into English, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese.
