Ann Darrow
|
Ann Darrow is a fictional character from the King Kong movie. She is the love interest of the character King Kong. In the classic 1933 version of the movie, Ann Darrow is played by Fay Wray. In late 2004, a remake of King Kong (directed by Peter Jackson of The Lord of the Rings fame) began production. Ann Darrow will be played by Naomi Watts. The character Ann Darrow is not included in any other films in the Kong series.
In the original King Kong film, Miss Darrow travels to Skull Island with love interest, first mate Jack Driscoll and filmaker Carl Denham. There, she is kidnapped by natives who wish to offer her as a sacrifice to King Kong. King Kong promplty falls in love with her and kidnaps her himself. She is rescued by Driscoll and his comrades, only to be kidnapped once more by King Kong when the company transports him to New York and puts him on display. In the film's finale, she is rescued from his clutches as he holds her hostage high atop the Empire State Building.
In the 1933 production, Ann Darrow is a flat character with very little actual dialog. Her primary activities in the film are screaming a great deal and looking beautiful. Her role is likely to be expanded somewhat in the Peter Jackson remake.
