Anaconda (movie)
|
The 1997 thriller film Anaconda starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Eric Stoltz, Jon Voight, Owen Wilson and Kari Wuhrer. The plot centered on a film crew for National Geographic who are kidnapped by a hunter who is going after the world's largest anaconda, which is discovered in the remote jungle. The film was critically panned, garnering six nominations in that year's Golden Raspberry awards, though no "victories". A sequel called Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid was released in 2004.
The movie contains many errors about the behavior of the snake, from its speed to an outright untruth about disgorging freshly-caught prey simply to hunt again. In fact, most snakes do this after being frightened or startled and feel the need to get away quickly. In addition, one scene of the movie wrongly portrayed new-born anacondas as less than 12 inches long when in reality, they are two feet long when born, and quite capable of swimming away from danger rather than biting it.
