Amerongen is a municipality and a town in the central Netherlands. Landscape rises from flat near the Rhine to hilly in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. 2 kms north of Amerongen you will find the highest summit in the western part of the Netherlands. The Amerongense Berg reaches about 69 metres. The former emperor of Germany, Wilhelm II, who had been exiled to the Netherlands, lived in the Amerongen castle from 1918 until 1920.
