Alloway Township is a census-designated place and township located in Salem County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,774.
Geography
Alloway Township is located at 39°33'43" North, 75°21'18" West (39.562221, -75.355146)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 85.9 km² (33.2 mi²). 85.1 km² (32.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.99% water.
Alloway Township borders Upper Pittsgrove Township, Pilesgrove Township, Mannington Township, Quinton Township, and Cumberland County.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,774 people, 948 households, and 742 families residing in the township. The population density is 32.6/km² (84.5/mi²). There are 995 housing units at an average density of 11.7/km² (30.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 90.70% White, 6.89% African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 2.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 948 households out of which 36.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.8% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% are non-families. 18.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.19.
In the township the population is spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 103.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.0 males.
