Alexandria is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the community is 3,692.

The racial makeup of the community is 88.43% White, 9.75% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,397 households out of which 39.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% are non-families. 19.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
