Origins
The company was founded originally in 1902 by Edmond Gentil in Neuilly, Seine. First the production of bicycles started - and such as motorcycle production, it lasted longer than manufacturing of cars.
Voiturettes before the World War I
The company moved to Courbevoie, Seine in 1912. Before the World War I, Alcyon produced voiturettes. Single cylinder voiturette models of 7hp or 8hp were offered between 1906 and 1911.
Cyclecars between wars
In 1914 the company's name was changed to Automobiles Alcyon and in the 1920s it moved into the production of cyclecars, using two-stroke flat-twin engines. Later the company manufactured another cyclecar of similar design, thought this one featured a single cylinder engine. This proved a complete flop, and the company failed in 1928. Edmond Gentil owned a couple of bicycle and motorcycle companies and never reverted to cars again.
