Alanson is a village in Emmet County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 785.
Alanson is located in Littlefield Township on U.S. Highway 31 at the junction with Michigan State Highway 68. Petoskey is about 12 miles southwest on US 31 and Mackinaw City and the Mackinac Bridge are about 25 miles north. Interstate 75 is about 11 miles to the east on M-68 at Indian River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.96% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 785 people, 323 households, and 207 families residing in the village. The population density is 312.5/km² (807.8/mi²). There are 407 housing units at an average density of 162.0/km² (418.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 89.55% White, 0.89% African American, 5.61% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 3.31% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 323 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.93.
In the village the population is spread out with 26.9% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.
