A Feast for Crows is the highly anticipated fourth book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series. Martin's original intent had been to release A Dance with Dragons as the fourth book in the series, beginning five years after the end of A Storm of Swords; when that plan proved infeasible (at least in part due to a reliance on flashbacks) A Feast for Crows became the fourth book, with A Dance with Dragons now projected to be fifth in the series.
Various excerpts have been published, including a Cersei chapter in the paperback edition of A Storm of Swords and a piece set in the Iron Islands called "The Arms of the Kraken" in Dragon magazine.
The book has been completed as of May, 2005 but it will contain only some of the viewpoint characters that were orginally intended. Martin has explained that the book was becoming too long, and could not be published as a single volume. He decided to place the complete story arcs for only some of the characters in this book, and move the remaining plotlines to A Dance with Dragons which is now half-completed.
