A Delicate Balance is a play by Edward Albee was first produced in New York at the Martin Beck Theatre on September 12, 1966, and was revived at the Plymouth Theatre on April 21, 1996. The revival production won three Tony awards.
The story revolves around the household of an old couple and their cohabiting sister-in-law, who never passes up an opportunity to drink or to make a good joke at someone's expense. Their uneasy peace is shattered by first the unexpected arrival of two good old friends with free floating anxiety who need a place to stay where they can escape "the terror", and then by the arrival of the family's daughter after the collapse of her fourth marriage.
