A23 road
|
The A23 road is a major road in England.
The A23 runs from London to Brighton in East Sussex. From near Waterloo station, it travels south through Brixton, Streatham, Croydon, Coulsdon, Redhill, then into West Sussex. Continuing south, it runs past Gatwick Airport and Crawley on its way to Brighton on the south coast. Part of the road between Coulsdon and Crawley has been bypassed by the M23 motorway. From the southern end of the M23, the road is a dual carriageway as far as the outskirts of Brighton.
The Coulsdon relief road, planned for completion in 2006 will bypass the town centre of Coulsdon.
For part of its route through Croydon, the A23 is known as Purley Way, which is known for its superstores, particularly IKEA, and for Croydon Airport.
