AFC Wallingford are an English association football team who have played in the Combined Counties League since 1998, after they won the Cherry Red Records Chiltonian League championship. The club was founded by the 1995 merger of Hellenic League side Wallingford Town, founded in 1922, and Wallingford United, founded in 1934.
In 2001-02 AFC Wallingford won the CCL championship, and they were runners-up to Withdean 2000 and AFC Wimbledon in the succeeding two years. However, their facilities at their ground, Hithercroft, do not meet the standards of the Ryman Isthmian League and thus they have so far been denied further promotion. A recent grant of 100,000 GBP toward ground improvements may make promotion possible if they again win the CCL.
However, after heavy player turnover (several leaving for Didcot Town, who then won the FA Vase), the 2004-05 season saw AFC Wallingford unable to avoid last place and possible relegation.
