The 1963 Atlantic hurricane season was an event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially started June 1, 1963, and lasted until November 30, 1963.
Notable storms of the 1963 season included Hurricane Cindy, a minimal storm that caused $11.5 million (1963 dollars) in damage to Jefferson County, Texas. Hurricane Ginny held the record for highest storm surge in the harbor at Halifax, Nova Scotia until Hurricane Juan hit in the 2003 season. Ginny was unusual as it is one of the latest hurricanes on record to make landfall near New England, and was reported to have produced 18 inches of snow over Maine.
Deadlier storms of the season were Hurricane Edith, which killed ten in Martinique and caused large amounts of damage to other islands in the Caribbean. Hurricane Flora was the fifth-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. It killed an estimated 7200 when it made landfall in Haiti as a Category 4 storm, and then eastern Cuba at Category 3 strength.
