The 1959 Atlantic hurricane season was an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially started June 1, 1959, and lasted until November 30, 1959.
The most notable storm of 1959 was Hurricane Gracie, which caused ten deaths when it made landfall near Beaufort, South Carolina as well as millions in damage. Another eleven were killed by a tornado generated as Gracie weakened. The other storm of note, Hurricane Hanna, was a serious threat to shipping, but never approached land.
