1958 Atlantic hurricane season
|
The 1958 Atlantic hurricane season was an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially started June 1, 1958, and lasted until November 30, 1958.
This year's season is the earliest for which archived hurricane "preliminary reports" are available from the United States National Hurricane Center.
Notable 1958 storms include Hurricane Ella, which dumped considerable amounts of rain in southern Texas; Tropical Storm Gerda, which killed three in Puerto Rico; and Hurricane Helene, which caused $7 million in damage (1958 dollars) when it passed Cape Hatteras.
