Small-headed cod
The
small-headed cod (
Lepidion microcephalus) is a deepwater
fish belonging to the morid cods family (
Moridae), and related to the true cods (genus
Gadus). It is also known as the
long-finned cod. The descriptive alias highlights its long upper
fin. It has a pronounced chin barbel. It is found in the
Tasman Sea, including
Bass Straits and is commercially harvested by both
Australia and
New Zealand. It has been found in
continental shelf but typically its depth range is 750 - 1000 m . It may grow up to 48 cm.
