History
\nLafayette County
was created in
1856. It was named
for the
Marquis
de Lafayette,
French
officer who served with
George
Washington in the
American
Revolutionary War.
Geography

Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,419

mi²). 1,406
km² (543 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water.
