Can you make a mnemonic for all 6 trigonometric functions rather than just the first 3?? That is, the sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant. 66.32.113.158 21:15, 28 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone has bothered. Just remember which ones are recipricols of which, and that should be good enough. --ssd 01:57, 22 May 2004 (UTC)
Oly and Olivia Have Hairy Ankles
Hello, Would anybody mind if I modified my mnemonic "Oly and Olivia Have Hairy Ankles"? The way it is currently written seems to imply that there is a division between Oly (opposite)and (adjacent) Olivia (Opposite). Thank you Steve
- Feel free to modifiy it - I struggled trying to explain how this one works. However, unless I'm missing the point, doesn't there need to be a division between "Oly and Olivia", since they define different functions? --Dmr2 10:20, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
For reference:
- Version 1
- Oly And Olivia Have Hairy Ankles
- Oly And Olivia
- Have Hairy Ankles. Sin Cos Tan
- Opp / Hyp = Sin
- Adj / Hyp = Cos
- Opp / Adj = Tan
- Version 2
- Oly And Olivia Have Hairy Ankles (defines Sine | Cosine | Tangent as follows)
- Oly And Olivia: Opposite | Adjacent | Opposite
- Have Hairy Ankles: Hypotenuse | Hypotenuse | Adjacent
Silly Old hippies
When learning this myself our class had a competition to come up with a good mnemonic, and "Silly old hippies can all have tonnes of acid" is one I remember. I've added it to the list.
Hitler
How about "Silly Old Hitler Caused Awful Headaches To Our Americans". I haven't added it for two obvious reasons, but this is what was taught in my class.
- Umm, tricky one. Probably OK, but I'm not sure. --Dmr2 10:17, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
