I removed the It's a Wonderful Life reference, as Henson said specifically that the names are NOT from the two supporting characters in that movie. It says this in Bert and Ernie - DavidWBrooks 11:56, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Than again, perhaps Henson's lawyers advised this course of action and it's just a coincidence that Bert is the officious muppet where Bert is the police officer, Ernie is the goofie muppet where Ernie the taxi driver is the goofier one of the pair (who kisses Bert after they croon to the newlyweds), etc. Denied or not, the coincidences are too striking and my statement was couched in "may" language; you probably should have left it in both articles, adding the official denial if you wished.
