It might be worth mentioning that the name "Brunswick" originates in the German city "Braunschweig". I'm not sure that East Brunswick was directly named after that city, though. --Magnus Manske
Well, I think East Brunswick was named after New Brunswick, a city nearby. I do believe some of the original settlers in the area had some sort of Dutch/German background. Hence New Brunswick maybe. -- Oddjobn99
A lot of German names in North America, particularly in Canada, have to do with the connections to German nobility that the British Royal Family had post-1700. I believe that's where the Canadian province New Brunswick got its name. -- Paul Drye
I did a little more research and it looks as though New Brunswick was named after the British royal house of Brunswick, which comes from the German-British royalty connection. -- Oddjobn99
