Somebody add this link http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/36344.html and write something about it. I can not edit this page myself for some reason
Lycos: Make Love not Spam
We should include information on this intersting case of corporate funded, and organised, DoS. Read article at the BBC website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4065751.stm). Lycos developed, and released, a screensaver for download which would use the computers to which it was downloaded to flood spam sites with data - with full knowledge and consent of the downloader, of course. --[[User:OldakQuill|Oldak Quill]] 21:40, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
perhaps some mention should be given to the architecture of the internet responsible for unwanted outcomes by too-many-requests to begin with. other network protocols exist which benefit rather than degrade with increased scaling of requests. Freenet is one example.
Bittorrent, slashdot
Could mention
- Bittorent for websites - if it's here in any way I don't know, at:
"A final option, one which might be available to larger companies and networks, is to throw more hardware or bandwidth at the flood and wait it out."
- The similarity with slashdotting.
Would it be possible to re-direct a search for "ddos" to the "distributed" portion in the document? --Seas 11:52, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
