Sanctuary (DS9 episode)

"Sanctuary" is the title of a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode, from the second season. Its episode number is 430, and it first aired on 28 November 1993.
Toward the beginning of the episode, a group of Skrreeans arrives on Deep Space Nine. The universal translator, however, is unsuccessful at translating their verbal language into English. As a result, the people who greet them, including Odo, Dax, and Kira, cannot understand their speech. After a while, however, the universal translator begins to properly translate their language, allowing the Deep Space Nine crew to understand them. When they do, they learn that they belong to a group of about three million Skrreeans who need to move to a different planet.

Dax (as well as possibly one other person) set about searching for the identity of a suitable planet for the Skrreeans, and they find one. However, the Skrreeans select Bajor as the planet to which they strongly desire to emigrate. A group of political leaders on Bajor consider their request to emigrate, and deny the request. In doing so, they cite such reasons as the claim that the Bajorans would feel obligated to provide aid to the suffering people, and would be unable to do so. The Bajorans, who are in the midst of a famine, say their decision is final.
At the end of the episode, the Skrreeans begin moving to Draylon II.
