Redland is a census-designated place and an uncorporated area located in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Geography
As an unincorporated area, Redland's boundaries are not officially defined. Redland is, however, recognized by the United States Census Bureau as a Census-designated Place, and by the United States Geological Survey as a populated place located at 39°8'17" North, 77°9'19" West (39.137931, -77.155292)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the place has a total area of 18.1 km² (7.0 mi²). 17.8 km² (6.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.86% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 16,998 people, 5,272 households, and 4,423 families residing in the area. The population density is 955.3/km² (2,474.3/mi²). There are 5,425 housing units at an average density of 304.9/km² (789.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the area is 55.04% White, 15.75% African American, 0.35% Native American, 15.94% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 8.60% from other races, and 4.29% from two or more races. 15.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,272 households out of which 44.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.1% are non-families. 11.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.22 and the average family size is 3.46.
In the area, the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 98.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.2 males.
