In Star Fox 64 Andross fights Fox in the form of a giant, disembodied floating head.

He was a brilliant scientist, but he used his intelligence for evil. He was exiled by General Pepper to the barren, deserted planet Venom, because of his dangerous experiments being performed on Corneria. Five years later, General Pepper noticed that Andross and his associates were performing strange activities on the planet Venom. A mercenary unit called Star Fox was formed, initially consisting of James McCloud, Peppy Hare, and Pigma Dengar. When the original Star Fox team arrived at Venom, Pigma Dengar betrayed them and defected to Andross's side. In the process Andross captured James McCloud, father of Fox McCloud. (James did not survive the encounter, but he returned in Star Fox 64 as a ghost to help Fox escape from Venom.) Peppy Hare narrowly escaped from Venom and returned to Corneria to inform Fox McCloud about his father's fate.

Andross proclaimed himself emperor of the planet Venom, and formed an army of loyalists. Soon, he planned to conqor the rest of the known universe and expand his empire further.

General Pepper turned to a brand new Star Fox team lead by Fox McCloud in order to vanquish Andross, save Corneria, and free the Lylat System from Andross. The new Star Fox team consisted of Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi. General Pepper told them that Andross was about to invade the Lylat System and seize Corneria. The Star Fox team went on a perilous journey to Venom and defeated the Star Wolf team that guarded Andross. Fox McCloud heroically flew to the interior of Venom solo, where he defeated Andross.

Eight years later, Andross discovered the ancient power of the "Krazoa". Andross used General Scales as a puppet to gain control of Sauria. Once he had control, he revived himself by trapping Krystal, who has the ability to channel the Krazoa power, into a crystal shortly after she released the first Krazoa Spirit.

Shortly after Fox McCloud released Krystal from the crystal atop Krazoa Palace, Andross awakened. Fox McCloud immediately went into his Arwing to fight Andross once again. In the middle of the fight, Falco reappeared, and they defeated Andross together.

Andross has a nephew, Andrew Oikonny, who was a member of the mercenary Star Wolf team, but for unexplained reasons was kicked out.

Other appearances

Andross is not in the newest Star Fox game, Star Fox: Assault, making it the first Star Fox game where he plays no role, though his nephew Andrew leads a rebellion in his uncle's name.

Andross appeared as two different trophies in Super Smash Bros. Melee; one as his Star Fox 64 self (with polygon count upgrade) and one as he appeared in the original Star Fox game for the Super NES.
