Alexander (village), New York

Alexander is a village located in Genesee County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 481. The village is named after early settler, Alexander Rea.

The Village of Alexander was incorporated in 1834 and is within the Town of Alexander.

Geography

Alexander is located at 42°54'8" North, 78°15'30" West (42.902327, -78.258422)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

The Tonawanda Creek flows through the village. Alexander is at the junction of Alexander Road (Route 98) and Broadway (Route 20).

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 481 people, 172 households, and 121 families residing in the village. The population density is 422.1/km² (1,099.4/mi²). There are 178 housing units at an average density of 156.2/km² (406.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.34% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 172 households out of which 41.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.1% are married couples living together, 5.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 23.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.30.

In the village the population is spread out with 33.3% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $51,528, and the median income for a family is $60,000. Males have a median income of $42,917 versus $21,071 for females. The per capita income for the village is $26,837. 0.8% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
