A*Teens

A*Teens (or A-Teens) is a pop group from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1998. They were first called the ABBA Teens, but a member of ABBA said that he would sue if they did not change their name. Therefore, not wanting to cause a confrontation with their musical predecessor and icon, they shortened their name to A*Teens. In 1999, they released their first album ABBA Generation consisting of ABBA covers. After they released their second album, Teen Spirit, a year later, they toured in the US with Aaron Carter. Their penultimate album in the US, Pop 'til you drop, also known in Europe and Asia as New Arrival, was released in 2002. The group went on tour with Play and LNYT that year. Finally, their lastest album Greatest Hits was released in Europe in 2004, leaving their American fans waiting for the lastest installment in A*Teens albums. In this album, they have a couple new songs, including a cover of Nick Kamen's single I Promised Myself. In late 2004, Dhani Lennevald released his first single as a solo artist titled Girl Talk.
Their video for the ABBA cover Dancing Queen bears an unmistakable likeness plotwise to the 1985 John Hughes film The Breakfast Club. In addition the principal in the movie and in the video is played by the same actor.

A*Teens Fan Fiction
The A*Teens fanbase consists largely of prepubescent females. Most of them are European, although a fair amount of the online fans are American. These fans range in loyalty from the mildly interested to the passionately obsessed, and are known to engage in fan fiction.
Fan fiction is actually seemingly encouraged by the band, as their official discussion board contains an entire forum dedicated to the stories. Such encouragement of Real Person Fiction is generally unheard of. As a result of this encouragement, vast amounts of online A*Teens fans write fan fiction, which is comprised primarily of self-insertion and shippers dealing with favorite band members. Some writers in A*Teens fandom break away from this norm, however, claiming that such fan fiction is cliche and that A*Teens fan fiction deserves fresh plot-lines. Thus, a small sect of these writers was known to exist from some time in 2001 to 2003, then the movement slowly disintegrated, though their various fan fictions (including the much-loved Confessions of a Cherry Suicide by Crying_Angel [a.k.a. "Maya"] and The Strangers by Web417 [a.k.a. "Webbie"], both of which ironically contain shipper elements) still exist on the internet.
The first A*Teens fan fiction can, most likely, be attributed to a fan known as Ingrid (former owner of the now non-existent fansite Somewhere in the Crowd) and was probably written some time in late 2000.
