Yates Township is a township located in Lake County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 714.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.5 km² (35.7 mi²). 91.7 km² (35.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.87% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 714 people, 308 households, and 186 families residing in the township. The population density is 7.8/km² (20.2/mi²). There are 1,256 housing units at an average density of 13.7/km² (35.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 51.26% White, 42.02% African American, 1.12% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 5.18% from two or more races. 2.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 308 households out of which 24.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples living together, 15.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 31.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.86.
