Wolfeboro (CDP), New Hampshire

Wolfeboro CDP is a census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Wolfeboro located in Carroll County, New Hampshire. The United States Census Bureau defines the CDP in order to report separate demographic detail for the more densely populated main settlement in the town. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,979.

Geography

The U.S. Census defines the CDP as a total area of 18.9 km² (7.3 mi²). 18.2 km² (7.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.56% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,979 people, 1,304 households, and 792 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 163.6/km² (423.5/mi²). There are 1,722 housing units at an average density of 94.6 persons/km² (244.8 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.26% White, 0.17% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.07% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 1.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,304 households out of which 22.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 39.2% are non-families. 33.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.78.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 22.3% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 27.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.5 males.

The median income for a household is $42,853, and the median income for a family is $51,005. Males have a median income of $36,950 versus $30,688 for females. The per capita income for the town is $25,466. 4.6% of the population and 1.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.9% are under the age of 18 and 4.3% are 65 or older.
