Western Independence Party of Saskatchewan

The Western Independence Party of Saskatchewan is a provincial political party in Saskatchewan, Canada. It advocates the separation of Canada's four western provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba), and the formation of a new country. It is a branch of the federal Western Independence Party.
The party was formed on July 12, 2003, and nominated 18 candidates in the November 5, 2003 provincial election. These candidates won a total of 2,735 votes, or 0.64% of the provincial total.
The party's leader is Bruce Ritter (b. April 3, 1954), a staff solicitor with the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission, who was named leader at the party's founding convention.
The WIPS has informal ties with the Separation Party of Alberta and its website includes links to the website of that party. The WIPS is not affiliated to the Western Canada Concept Party of British Columbia or the British Columbia-based Western Block Party and has distanced itself from Doug Christie, the controversial leader of those parties.
