West Babylon is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in Suffolk County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the hamlet had a total population of 43,452.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 20.8 km² (8.0 mi²). 20.0 km² (7.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.87% water.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 43,452 people, 14,268 households, and 10,943 families residing in the hamlet. The population density is 2,176.0/km² (5,638.8/mi²). There are 14,571 housing units at an average density of 729.7/km² (1,890.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the hamlet is 83.79% White, 10.32% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.90% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 2.03% from other races, and 1.83% from two or more races. 7.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 14,268 households out of which 36.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% are married couples living together, 12.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.00 and the average family size is 3.42.
