Weetabix (see also Weet-Bix) is a food processing company that is responsible for the production of the breakfast cereal brands Alpen, Weetabix, 'Ready Brek' and 'Grain Shop High Fibre Crisp'. It was started in 1932 and incorporated in 1975. The company is headquarted in Burton Latimer, near Kettering, Northamptonshire, England and conveniently next to the A14. It also has factories in Corby and Ashton-under-Lyne. One of the areas Weetabix has moved into is as one of the major makers of the generic cereals for some of the major supermarkets (See private brand).
Ready Brek had the slogan 'Central heating for kids', and 1970s TV adverts showed children walking to school with a dramatic radiant glow. It was launched in 1957 as instant porridge, then in 1969 as instant hot cereal, being originally made by J.Lyons at their Greenford factory. It was sold by Lyons Tetley to Weetabix in June 1990.
Weetabix now has factories in Europe. It is the largest producer of breakfast cereals in the UK.
