Water Valley is a city located in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,677.

The racial makeup of the city is 57.87% White, 40.74% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,470 households out of which 30.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.0% are married couples living together, 23.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% are non-families. 31.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 3.07.
