Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,613 km² (1,009 mi²). 2,599 km² (1,003 mi²) of it is land and 15 km² (6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.57% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 92.31% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 2.97% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.18% from other races, and 1.82% from two or more races. 4.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,506 households out of which 33.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.00% are married couples living together, 8.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 25.30% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.00.
