According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²). 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.14% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 5,281 people, 1,985 households, and 1,363 families residing in the city. The population density is 278.2/km² (720.6/mi²). There are 2,110 housing units at an average density of 111.1/km² (287.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.64% White, 1.70% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 1.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,985 households out of which 37.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% are non-families. 26.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the city the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $34,022, and the median income for a family is $38,396. Males have a median income of $31,701 versus $21,896 for females. Economy
Warrenton has direct access to both rail and interstate traffic. Manufacturing consists of mostly light industry. The towns primary sources of external revenue are service facilities for travellers.
