Walter Garrison Runciman, 3rd Viscount Runciman of Doxford, CBE, is a leading British sociologist. He is a Senior Research Fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge and President of the British Academy. He is also Chairman of the shipping company Andrew Weir and Co. Ltd. He is the author of numerous books and learned articles including Relative Deprivation and Social Justice, A Critique of Max Weber's Philosophy of Social Science, the three volume A Treatise on Social Theory and The Social Animal.
