Walter A. Gordon

Walter A. Gordon, a grandson of slaves, was an early African American graduate of UC Berkeley (1918) who in addition to lettering in three sports and being admitted to the National Collegiate Hall of Fame was the first of his race to graduate from UC's Boalt Law School. During his long and varied career he served as a policeman, lawyer, member of the California State Adult Authority, Governor of the Virgin Islands, and Federal District judge.
