Wakefield and Peacedale are villages located in the town of South Kingstown in Washington County, Rhode Island. As of the 2000 census, the villages had a combined total population of 8,468.
Geography
Wakefield-Peacedale is located at 41°26'28" North, 71°29'57" West (41.441234, -71.499290)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the villages together have a total area of 13.2 km² (5.1 mi²). 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²) of them is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of them is water. The total area is 4.70% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,468 people, 3,221 households, and 2,174 families residing in the villages. The population density is 671.4/km² (1,739.4/mi²). There are 3,385 housing units at an average density of 268.4/km² (695.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the villages is 90.34% White, 2.01% African American, 3.08% Native American, 1.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 2.79% from two or more races. 1.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,221 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 25.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the villages the population is spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.4 males.
