WJXX is the ABC affiliate serving the Jacksonville, Florida area. It started operation in February 1997, replacing longtime ABC affiliate WJKS.
WJXX originally was owned by the Albritton Communications Group, who simulcast the signal on Brunswick, Georgia's WBSG-21. WJXX's transmitter was set up in Orange Park, just south of Jacksonville.
Albritton sold WJXX to Gannett in November 1999. The new owners turned around and combined WJXX's news staff with the staff of their other station, WTLV; this combination created the First Coast News broadcasts shown on both stations.
