Ville Valo

Ville Hermanni Valo (born November 22, 1976) is the vocalist, songwriter and frontman of the Finnish love metal band HIM.

Ville Valo was born on the 22nd of November 1976, in Helsinki, Finland at 8.28 AM. His father was a taxi driver at the time of his birth. Valo is half Finnish, half Hungarian. He has a younger brother named Jesse, a Thai boxer.

For the first few months of his life Valo lived with his mother and father in Vallila, surrounded by wooden houses. Soon after his birth the family moved to Oulunkylä and continued to live there for approximately 17 years. Throughout his life animals surrounded the family. Valo reportedly learned to walk using the aid of the family pet dog Sami. When Sami died Valo was devastated, and at this point he is said to have developed allergies and asthma.

Valo's musical roots go deep into his childhood, from when he was a baby. When Valo cried as an infant his father would play Paratiisi by Rauli Badding Somerjoki, and his mother would take him in her arms and dance. At this baby Ville would cease to cry. Old school singer-songwriter from Oulunkylä, Tapio Rautavaara is Valo's biggest idol in Finnish popular music.

In his youth he played instruments such as bass and drums in many bands (Eloveena Boys, Aurora, Charlie Parker, Terapia, Winha, Unga Kaskelottär, Natas, B.L.O.O.D., Kemoterapia, Donits-Osmo Experience) until he, together with friends, formed the band HIM in 1991. He is the vocalist and main lyricist in HIM.

He is also the frontman of the band. He has said in an interview that this is the way the other band members want it to be; they merely want to play their instruments.
