Vaxholm Municipality (Kommun) is a municipality of the Stockholm archipelago in central Sweden. Administratively it belongs to Stockholm County. The seat is located in the town Vaxholm (pop 4,900).
A total of 64 islets belong to Vaxholm, as does the peninsula Bogesundslandet. Besides the town Vaxholm, the only other town is Resarö, pop 2,050. The somewhat famous village Ytterby is also situated in the municipality.
Not until 1912 was it allowed to build houses from other matierals than wood.
In Vaxholm lays the fortress of Vaxholm, built between 1836-1863, and perhaps the most notable thing in the municipality.
The municipality also has a significant amount of tourism. Ships transporting passangers between the islands began running on a daily basis in in 1850's. Today, many of islands (among them the main island Vaxholm) can be reached be bridges from the mainland.
