Here are some tasks you can do:

Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia.

You might find these links helpful in creating new pages or helping with the above tasks: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

 • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
 • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.

Again, welcome! - UtherSRG 22:08, 19 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hi, I deleted your user page because it appears some anonymous user vandalized it. Thanks. Fuzheado 06:38, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Channel 4 News

You see the Channel 4 News page, but look at the Channel 4 page. Go to the Channel 4 page and click on "Discuss this page" and you will see an important note if you scroll down to the bottom.

Thanks!

Thanks for fixing my mistake! ;) Adam Conover 19:47, Apr 9, 2004 (UTC)

The Castle of Otranto

Thanks for removing the Vote for Speedy deletion from The Castle of Otranto. Hopefully, it will grow into an article. I read it, but that was 20 years ago so I don't remember much. Danny 22:38, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

You know, I only marked it for speedy deletion because the original was just vandalism. I doubt anyone would have thought it suspicious if you'd removed the tag yourself. There's no voting on speedy deletions. - Lee (talk) 22:46, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Generation Terrorists

hi scud lee, thanks for fixing the table box on Generation Terrorists, does this mean you can't have more than three albums in the discography??Scraggy4 02:45, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

No, the chronology section is meant to be for navigation - previous/next. The actual problem with the table was the all music guide link, there was a stray newline which forced the entire URL to be displayed. (Oh, and call me Lee) - Lee (talk) 02:50, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

thanx lee,

it was my first attempt at the album template and you haven't put me trying another now maybe..Scraggy4 02:53, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Well, good luck. My advice would be to try and dig around and fill in as many blanks in the top of the table and not worry too much about the reviews. The facts are more important than the opinions. Also, check out this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Whatlinkshere&target=MediaWiki:AlbumboxStart) for a list of pages with albumboxes - for inspiration. - Lee (talk) 03:05, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Nomination

Hi there, Lee! I've nominated you for adminship! Good luck. (You will want to accept the nomination at the link.) --MerovingianTalk 17:18, Apr 15, 2004 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for the nomination. I'm not entirely convinced that I want or need adminship just yet though. I'm pretty happy beavering away as I am, and to be honest I haven't made that many substantial contributions. Naturally of course, I'll let it play out a bit first before I properly make my mind up, to see what other people think. Thanks again. - Lee (talk) 17:42, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Album info required

Hi Lee, I wondered if you could take a look at the table of album info. required on my user page and let me know what you think. I have posted a comment on the wikiprojectsalbum page but no-one has commented as yet. Although far from perfect I feel it does the job in letting people know what info is still required for any particular album. Even if people don't agree that it is good enough to replace the needs cover page I will try to keep it upto date. So feel free to add / remove info. After I have added the albums I will endeavour to find all of the relevant info even though this appears to be a big job I feel that the trouble some are going to to create the album boxes is spoiled by missing info. I am also still slightly confused with regard to Album / LP / Cd / Vinyl etc. A number of articles have the wording Album and a number specify the actual format ie; CD, Cassette etc. did a decision come about regarding the preferred format?? Yeah I've been meaning to comment, I've been a little in two minds about it, but I'm coming around to thinking it's a good idea. There's already a Needs infobox page (which has been completely forgotten about), so you wouldn't have to list pages without boxes in the table, so it shouldn't be too much work. I've been contemplating whether or not an "open tasks" style box would be worth it, to try and encourage people to bring existing pages up to spec, rather than ploughing on making new stubbish pages with albumboxes (which I'm guilty of myself).
As for formats, personally I'd prefer that particular section to basically mirror the color of the box i.e. Album, EP, Single, but perhaps we should add a separate "formats" section just below it. That would mean correcting a lot of albumboxes, though. hmmm, two minds again. I'll add something to the talk page in a minute. - Lee (talk) 20:33, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Page move

Thanx Lee, I couldn't seem to get it to move to the project pages. Don't know if I had to include brackets or not but I tries both ways and it still wouldn't work. Should the re-direct pages be deleted now??Scraggy4 02:06, 2 May 2004 (UTC)

new lists

Hi Lee, as you may have noticed I only got up to the letter I before you you started separating the list so I an now working backwards from letter Z so that we don't overlap.Scraggy4 18:43, 2 May 2004 (UTC)

I've switched to working directly from list of albums now, so it may be better if you just restrict yourself to adding pages with albumboxes from now on. When I get to where you've got up to, I'll switch back and finish off. - Lee (talk) 19:01, 2 May 2004 (UTC)

Accusations of obfuscation

Ha, ... Hah, Hah! ScudLee, I have solved your private joke. As you very well know, a bunch of ASBs, or whatever, were listed under Wikipedia:MediaWiki custom messages#Project namespace. You are the editor who moved them! So, at the time that I added my project namespace that usage was in common practice and hence accounts for above original use of the term namespace. I will now study the new location, to see if makes any more sense. This is what I mean by obfuscation with the aid of science / academia. -- John Gohde 20:46, 9 May 2004 (UTC)

Yeah... I admit I have known about your mistaken use of "Project namespace" for a while, from after I removed several incorrectly placed elements from Wikipedia:MediaWiki custom messages (not just the project namespace section - which is for msgs used in the project namespace). Sorry I didn't inform you sooner. - Lee (talk) 21:38, 9 May 2004 (UTC)

Casting me as a troll

Originally made on John Gohde's talk page:[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Mr-Natural-Health&diff=0&oldid=3523405)

Well, I've been called many things in my time: handsome, suave, witty, for example, are just a few of the ones I'm still waiting on. Troll, however, was not one I was expecting. This saddens me. I would like to try and clarify. - Lee (talk) 12:04, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

Your accusation seems to be based on this sentence - "Where exactly have you seen the phrase used in the context you are using it?" which I admit was a slightly sly reference to Wikipedia:MediaWiki custom messages. However, my edit of that page wasn't to try and obfuscate or alter the original meaning of the Project namespace section away from the manner you chose to use it, but to reaffirm it's actual original meaning which had become occluded by the inclusion of a couple of inappropriately placed elements (two elements - yours and one other). If you do not believe me, please observe this edit [6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:MediaWiki_custom_messages&diff=3151404&oldid=3150709) made only last month, in which User:Bensaccount changed the header from "Wikipedia namespace" to "Project namespace". The phrase "Project namespace" has never been used in the context in which you were using it, at least not on that page. If you mistakenly thought it was being used in that context on that page, then fair enough, but please don't accuse me of attempting to alter it's meaning. - Lee (talk) 12:04, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

The other "troll-like" behaviour you ascribed to me was from my use of this phrase "Give me a weekend and a shovel, and I'll happily bury them all." which I made in response to "...but it would probably require a strikt policy to get rid of those already existing." [sic]. I was merely indicating my willingness to swiftly and ruthlessly enforce policy, were it to become policy. Your promise to engage in a revert war over this was inappropriate. - Lee (talk) 12:04, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

I know that you've worked hard on trying to NPOV the articles on CAM, and are trying to draw all the related articles together under your wikiproject, and that this has created some opposition towards you from people who have a bias against all things CAM. I am not one of these people. Our zones of interest are so far apart that it is quite likely we'll never edit the same article (although if you ever create an album page, make sure those song titles are in quotes!). It seems to me we both got a little caught up on what, I agree with you, is currently rather a minor non-issue. - Lee (talk) 12:04, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

ONYX & lists

Hi Lee,

I had realised my mistake on ONYX and was just going back to do that after I had added the msg:stub & msg:album to the pages, but you being Mr.On The Ball you beat me to it. I reckon another month and we have have our "needs and incompletes" down to a manageable size. I hope to have a little bit of free time this week to try and clear some. I realized today that with the incomplete page as it is now, it is easy to email to friends to see if they have any of the missing info in their album collection. I will start this tomorrow and if a couple reply it will hopefully speed things up. The Recorded box is rather hard to find the info for unless you actually own the album. I feel that maybe after a month of clearing up, we could possibly delete those with incomplete Recorded boxes from the incomplete list as this would then reduce the list to a manageable size????? I see you added quite a few albums to the album list today. Scraggy4 22:42, 10 May 2004 (UTC)

IP Addresses

How do you determine what IP address a user is logged in with? You cite this on Wikipedia:Help Desk, in helping user TomS to find his original screen name. What tool do you use for this? Is this function only available to Admins? - DropDeadGorgias (talk) 17:36, Jul 21, 2004 (UTC)

Certainly a good question(s) - for me too.

Sorry for the aggravation

Hi, yesterday I was editing the page for the King Crimson album Starless and Bible Black. At the time I was under the misconception the all creative titles should be in italics and every time I saw the song titles appear in quotation marks I deleted them and replaced them with double apostrophes. I honestly believed it was a software glitch and didn’t bother to check the history to see if I was being corrected.

Anyway, sorry for the extra aggravation and thanks for the insight.-Justin Foote (talk) 18:21, 21 Jul, 2004 (UTC).

Years 40-1788

If you want and if there is a consensus to do so, I can use D6 to add a year category to those years. Linking the year category to the decade category would still need to be done manually though. BTW years 1900-2004 look good. -- User:Docu

imdb template

Thanks for editing the imdb templates on the Halloweentown page. I didn't know about that template. Now when I get a chance, I'll go and add them to the article from which I copied and pasted the imdb references I originally used. Glenn6502 01:37, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Adminship?

I was about to nominate you for Adminship, but I see you have been nominated in the past. You're not listed at Wikipedia:List of administrators, but I can't find a record of the nomination failing, nor can I imagine why it would. Are you an admin? If so, please add your name to the list. If not, why not and should I bother re-nominating you? Tuf-Kat 20:56, Oct 17, 2004 (UTC)

ScudLee declined the nomination back in April. See [7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship&oldid=3222687#ScudLee_.283.2F2.2F0.29.3B_ends_17:19.2C_22_Apr_2004_.28UTC.29). Incidentially, I think ScudLee would make a fine administrator. Acegikmo1 02:12, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Moved from userpage

Thanks for editing the imdb templates on the Halloweentown page. I didn't know about that template. Now when I get a chance, I'll go and add them to the article from which I copied and pasted the imdb references I originally used. Glenn6502 01:37, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Userpage?

Let me know if you want me to delete your userpage. Of course, you'll be able to delete yourself soon, hopefully. I moved the message Glenn6502 put there to just above this one. Tuf-Kat 03:22, Oct 21, 2004 (UTC)

Figured I'd delete your user page, since you've been so vocal about wanting it to stay a red link on RfA. Let me know if you want the comment restored anyway ("well i need the address because i really need to contact them :) btw where do u live?" by 62.215.17.228). I was thinking what an irony it is that if you were an admin you could delete it yourself, but people object to you being an admin because you don't want a user page. Kate Bush A dilemma

I have made a start on her albums, uploaded album covers, putting in track listings etc. I have now got a dilemma.

She released a series of compilation albums with the same name: This Woman's Work Vol.s I & II and then released those 2 vols. as a This Woman's Work boxed set (96 tracks!). What should I do on the album page? Should I show the box set cover in the album box, with the complete list of tracks to the left, or should I have 2 wiki album boxes (vol. I & Vol. II - with appropriate track lists for each vol.) possible separated into two lvl 2 headings, followed by the third lvl 2 heading for the boxed set? If the latter, I assume that I won't need to add a track list unless it's different (I haven't checked yet). I lean towards the latter option but am ready to comply with 'procedure'. :=} -- Martin TB 14:01, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

OK I'll work on it later. Re: double-quotes (italics) vs quote marks " I am now very confused. I have been working on the double-quotes section of wiki syntax All book and film titles have to be in italics. As does the album name in the wiki album box. Surely continuity would suggest that song titles should also be in italics too? --Martin TB 17:04, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
NP, I'll wikify the entries I have done so far to comply with Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Style. Many thanks --Martin TB 18:36, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
 • OK I have cracked on with her album list over the past two days, essentially just putting in the facts. To be honest, I don't think I'm the right person to comment on the tracks - it will be hard to be NPOV about them :). Could you take a look through them, and make sure I've done them properly? They start with The Kick Inside. Your input would be appreciated. I'll tackle some other artists later.

Many Thanks -- Martin TB 10:59, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Template talk:Albumbox

Template modification problem

Hi! You've been working on a lot of template footers, changing 'id=toc' to 'class="toccolours"'. I personally preferred the old light-blue background color, but that may be just because I was used to it.
However, the change also expands the box vertically for some reason (on my browser at least), by putting lots more whitespace between lines of the table. Compare the old version of one page [8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Template:V-boats&oldid=7964652) with the new [9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:V-boats). Is there some way to fix this?

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Ram-Man&action=edit&section=new)| talk) 19:34, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
