Hello Humus! I am currently tagging images and I've come across this image: Image:Rishonleyehuda.jpg. I am pretty sure that it qualifies for fair use, but since it is a product of the military it may be in the public domain? I don't pretend to know anything about British copyright laws, so I've tagged this image as {{fairuseunsure}}. If you know better than I could you drop by and tag that image correctly? Or you could leave me a message on my talk page and I'll get 'er done for ya. Thanks! --MaxPower 20:23, 2005 Jan 13 (UTC)
Children and minors in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Greetings, Humus sapiens. I find the above title to be far more NPOV than, and as such, vastly superior to the POV title Israeli violence against Palestinian children – you can provisionally count on my support for this supplantation. That said, I am a little concerned that the word "violence against" was dropped since clearly this is the focus of the article. Regards, El_C 10:53, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Interesting, I never took it to imply intentionality so much as a description of violence being directed against (whether accidentally or intentionally) children and minors. But, I am not really in a stage where I can take a firm position either way as I have not been involved in (nor even privy to) these discussions which preceded this specific title change. I should study these prior to making any further comment. At any rate, as mentioned, I am provisionally extending my support for the new title – most certainly over the hitherto title. What I do wish to commend you and the other supportive editors for is merging Palestinian violence against Israeli children with Israeli violence against Palestinian children under the new title. That is something I have argued for all along and I am pleased to see it finally materialize.

Looking for more biographical info on Ginzburg.
Some articles about Eugenia Ginzburg in reference books on Russian Literature mention that she also wrote a couple of short works about growing up in the Soviet Union in the 1920s. Do you know about these? Do you know if they have been translated into English? User:68.12.66.75

If you have the information, it would be neat to know what the background of this image is (i.e. when and where was it shot?) That looks better than just "here's some random KKK members", if you catch my drift. :-)
Alternatively or additionally, since you affirm it's fair use copyrighted, giving the original source would be nice. JRM 10:27, 2005 Apr 5 (UTC)
I noticed this image too, and am slightly curious about its origin. I wonder if these are "traditional" KKK, with the Hitler salute and the Holocaust denial emphasis they're acting rather more like Neonazis.--Pharos 10:52, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Deleted external links from Kielce Pogrom
What is wiki procedure for deleting external links anyway? My rationale for editing them was the following: all historical information about the pogrom is included in the texts of two published authors Szaynok and Pogonowski and is nicely augmented by USHM and fantom.com links. Leichter text is not scientific but rather an emotional impression about the event, Hlond's response was one of hundreds which were expressed about the event (or generally about Christian-Jewish relations e.g. John Paul II) between 1946-2005, link to JTA story about the planned commemoration for the site of pogrom is dated (1996) - current info would be welcomed here. Also, JTA story, in light of Szynok and Pogonowski monographs, is not accurate. Link to Anna Williams doesn't contribute anything new to the history of the event - there are dozens of references like that on the internet.
I have been always under impression that wiki standards for writing the articles is impartiality and balance - the same might be applied to external links. I encourage you to read Szynok and Pogonowski texts and then give the reasons for keeping the links I had deleted in. --Ttyre 10:29, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Also, link to the Jewish Virtual Library with Szaynok text was a duplicate. --Ttyre 10:43, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace
Hi Humus:
- The Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace article remains a stub, which is a great pity. This subject deserves to become a comprehensive detailed article because it is a clear demonstration of how Israeli-Arab peace WAS and CAN BE achieved. Often it is just "brushed" aside, or brushed under the carpet, or ignored, even by those writing articles about Jordan, see Jordan#History and Jordan#Foreign relations, and in many other related articles where such an article would be helpful to them as a link with good information. If you are at all able to, please contribute material to Israel-Jordan Treaty of Peace. Thank you. IZAK 05:00, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- The same applies to the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty article. See what you can contribute. IZAK 11:49, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Appreciate your help on Chekhov...
...especially in adding the Russian components to the various names - but why have you removed so much information from the Chekhov article (for example, the fact he was on scholarship at the Moscow University, his last words etc)? Most of the edits are your personal preference in style and are pretty much subjective, and in ironing out the article to be "flatter" I can't see any much gain at all. In fact some of your edits are downright baffling (switching dashes to more confusing commas). I'm sure you mean well, but I'm not sure if I would want to continue with the article biography at the rate which you are attritioning the article without good reason. "Conspiracy theory"
Hi, how is the "conspiracy theory" rename proposal trying to "redifine" the term exactly as you claimed? The Conspiracy theory article is proof that the phrase has multiple definitions already. No rename folks are trying to "redefine" the phrase, we are proposing moving away from it because it is inherently ambiguous and this is leading to POV. - Thanks for your correction. I copyedited a lot from the BC/AD articles, that was from 2nd millennium BC. I corrected it there, too.
- You seem to be interested in Israel and the Middle East. If you find more mistakes or have more to add, please help with this ailing article. Ben talk contr 05:30, May 10, 2005 (UTC)
- Great. I agree with your assessment (that it is ailing) and would start with converting BC/AD (offensive to some non-Christians) into neutral BCE/CE. Looking forward to constructive collaboration with you. Cheers. Humus sapiens←Talk 10:24, 10 May 2005 (UTC)
- Would be cool to have you as a contributor to the article.
- I personally don't care, whether you call it BC/AD or BCE/CE, it is common usage in en: to use BC/AD, but I can understand if it sounds (at least) strange to some people. If you want to change it, do it, but it takes a lot of time to pipe all the links, like [[2nd millenium BC|2nd millenium BCE]]. A good start in removing all the BC/AD stuff would be, of course, to find a better structure. If you have some ideas, let me know, I didn't find anything really convincing on the internet and I don't have any English books here (only Japanese, and I can't read them). I generally like major timeline articles, where you can find all the important events on a glance (though, here the geographical distinction is not quite clear). I took up this article, because it looked so pitiful and because I am interested in the Middle East and its history. I think I copyedited most of the information I could find on wiki and what I googled, and don't have much, like a book, to go on. So, if you have any ideas or find a better structure, let me know. Would be nice, to have a good article on this topic. Ben talk contr 10:48, May 10, 2005 (UTC)
Flags at Palestinian territories
I'm having a dispute with an editor who insists on putting in the flag of the State of Palestine at Palestinian territories, with some rather POV captions as well. Konstantin Pobedonostsev passage
Hey, I reverted back to the consensus version (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anti-Semitism&curid=1078&diff=0&oldid=0), but I'm uneasy about not seeing a source for that quote. Do you know? Best regards, El_C 09:04, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
pobedonostsev's phrase
"Articulated by Konstantin Pobedonostsev, a Russian statesman, the head of the Russian Holy Synod and a known anti-Semite, the policy was designed to "cause one-third of the Jews to emigrate, one-third to accept baptism, and one-third to starve". ("Jewish History of the Russian Federation: From Ancient Times to the Second World War." Heritage Films, Par.13)"
This part of article is not based on reliable sources. There is no evidence that Pobedonostsev said this phrase. "Jewish History of the Russian Federation: From Ancient Times to the Second World War." does not name person, who heard and reported this phrase. Attributing this phrase to Pobedonostsev needs HARD evidence. Otherwise it is libel.
If you search the web, you will find that the phrase has no exact form
"cause one-third of the Jews to emigrate, one-third to accept baptism, and one-third to starve" wiki variant
"one-third of Russian Jews should convert to Orthodoxy, one-third should emigrate and one-third should be killed." www.ncsj.org/AuxPages/051601Choral.shtml
"one-third of the Jews will convert, one-third will die, and one-third will flee the country" www.iona.edu/faculty/dwilliams/130/barnett.htm
Moreover http://www.srpska-mreza.com/History/ww2/gallery.html
Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations, Europe, edition 1995, page 91, entry: Croatia Quote: Slavko Kvaternik [the second in command to the Croatian WWII fuehrer, Dr Ante Pavelic] explained [on the day of formation of the WWII "Independent State of Croatia", on April 10, 1941] how pure Croatia should be built - by forcing one third of the Serbs to leave Croatia, one third to convert to Catholicism, and one third to be exterminated. Soon Ustasha bands initiated a bloody orgy of mass murder of Serbs unfortunate enough not to have converted or left Croatia on time. The enormity of such criminal behavior shocked even the conscience of German commanders... End quote
http://psychcentral.com/psypsych/Ustashe
The Usta?e embraced the Nazi ideology of the time. They aimed at an ethnically "pure" Croatia, and saw the Serbs that lived in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina as the their biggest obstacle. Thus, Usta?e ministers Mile Budak, Mirko Puk and Milovan ?ani? declared in May 1941 that the goal of the Usta?e was: One third of the Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia (ISC) to be catholicized One third of the Serbs to be expelled out of ISC One third of the Serbs in the ISC to be liquidated
So phrase in various is attributed to different people without any evidence. It is surely a libel.
Please remove this phrase from wikipedia article.
Pobedonostsev's quote
"It is not uncommon to see a foreign phrase translated in different ways but carrying the same sense. This is a well-known phrase, so stop removing it. I haven't read Pobedonostsev but will try to find a reputable source, perhaps in Russian."
Well, "to starve", "should be killed", "will die" have really different meanings. It proves that this phrase was just a gossip libelling Pobedonostsev and reproduced by different books and sites without proper check. Adopted by repetition.
What about the SAME phrase, but about SERBS?
Please remove this part of article wrom wikipedia. Don't help to spread the libel.
- As a person responsible for most of the article on Pobedonostsev, I support the removal. It's hardly in Pobedonostsev's character to say things like these. -Ghirlandajo 07:36, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I noticed that you reverted the CAIR article to re-insert the three-paragraph quote from the plaintiff's lawsuit. Since this has been a subject of revert wars (User:Diglewop has reverted it three times today already) I would ask that you please discuss your rationale on article talk.
