Hi

There is a great deal of foolishness and insinuations going on at talk:Jew. You name has been brought up a few times. It might be good if you stepped in and made a comment, particularly regarding your wording on wikipedia:Pages in need of attention. There seems to be confusion bordering on hysteria, or hysteria bordering on confusion, or some such. Thanks, Sam [Spade (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Sam_Spade&action=edit&section=new)] 16:40, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

What an odd discussion y'all are having in there. I can't follow it at all. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 16:59, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Yes, it annoyed me and so I decided to edit the article instead. Seems to have worked out great for everybody. Nice having you, one of the beauties of the group editing process is the occasional odd person with a level head ;) Cheers, Sam [Spade (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Sam_Spade&action=edit&section=new)] 18:02, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hancock's Razor

Hello Eequor, I am Doug Henning and I would like to report that William Langius Delaney is not fictional whatsoever, he is my friend from childhood and the actual inventor of the concept of hancock's razor. Please remove the scabrous assertion of fictionality from the article or I will. I am very pleased to hear that you enjoy our concept. Email me at dougefresh42@yahoo.com if you have any comments on its improvement or suggestions for its popularization.

Update: Sorry, I misread the history of the article. Wetman edited in the fictions. Thank you anyway for rescuing the idea. Please tell your friends.

Wikipedia:Even_more_bad_jokes_and_other_deleted_nonsense#Hancock.27s_Razor

I certainly think that Hancock's razor seems to be used a lot, therefore is worth a wikipedia article. News media seem to frighten people by focusing a lot of attention on new and different ("newsworthy") deaths -- apparently using Hancock's razor to choose which stories are important enough to communicate. I was at the list of the top 10 causes of death in the U.S., a few of which I'd never heard of before. How can we describe the idea in an encyclopediac way ? -- DavidCary 23:55, 9 Nov 2004 (UTC)

The main problem is that there is a vocal group of Wikipedians who feel the idea is not well-known enough to deserve an article. I see no outstanding errors in the current article, though it is possibly less formal than it should be. It would help if there was more information available. International Tibet Independence Movement

  • Article: zh-tw:西藏獨立運動
  • Corresponding English-language article: International Tibet Independence Movement.
  • Worth doing because: Long article in Chinese; English-language article is a stub

FAC nominations

To quote the WP:FAC rules - "If you nominate an article, you will be expected to address objections that are raised, or at least make a good-faith effort." - on your current and previous FAC noms (Sewage treatment and Occam's Razor) you have made no such effort. →Raul654 19:27, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)

I'm mostly impartial to them, but considered them to be better than most other articles. I have no further interest in their status, nor in defending them if they are considered by some to be inadequate. I do hope they'll be improved to featured article quality. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 21:54, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)
If you don't have an interest in their status or in defending them, then please don't nominate them. →Raul654 22:01, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)
Surely they will be adopted by somebody if they are seen to be deserving of featured article status. This is a community effort, isn't it? No single contributor is responsible for any article, nor should the misunderstanding be made that only one editor is capable of advancing progress on any specific article. Be bold. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 22:12, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)
In point of fact - no, most articles *do not* get adopted, as you say. And for the most part, the community is good at finding objections, but not fixing them - that job almost always falls to the nominator. And to put it simply - it's not the job of the community to fix your nominations for you. Now, there is finite space on that page, and there is finite viewership - if you do not intend to fix objections to your nominations, then don't take up space that someone else who *is* interested in fixing objections could otherwise be using. And finally, 'be bold' does not mean break every community rule and standard just because it suits you. →Raul654 22:50, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)
Another related page is Ignore all rules. I'm interested in the overall improvement of Wikipedia, and one of the ways I can help is by nominating articles that show promise. Consider the history of sewage treatment. Following my nomination, four other editors became involved in it, with discussion on its talk page, and it is becoming less Americentric. This follows nearly two months of inactivity. Likewise, on Occam's Razor, six others have contributed since my nomination. Clearly strict adherence to the "rules" is a nave and insular position which, had it been observed, would have prevented these improvements from occurring. Do you have Wikipedia's best interests in mind? Stop interfering. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 23:12, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Borges & The Glass Bead Game

Why did you interlink Jorge Luis Borges and The Glass Bead Game? It doesn't seem unimaginable to draw some kind of connection between the two, but just putting them in each other's "see also" list seems useless. I'd be comfortable saying that I'm pretty expert on Borges, and I read "The Glass Bead Game" some 30 years ago, and while I can see a certain intuitive connection, it seems more the type that is made by categories than by "see also".

Anyway, I'm inclined to delete this from the Borges article (which I have on my watchlist), but thought I'd ask you first in case there is a good explanation I'm missing. -- Jmabel | Talk 20:57, Nov 25, 2004 (UTC)

I might point out that this sort of interconnection is entirely in line with the game. Doesn't it sound a lot like sth Borges would have written? It isn't a particularly surprising connection if one knows Borges translated some of Hermann Hesse's work, most likely including The Glass Bead Game, but it's a striking similarity that may be of interest to people who are familiar with Borges or with Hesse but not both.
It's difficult to think of a categorization that would capture the similarities between works analagous to The Glass Bead Game. What would appear natural and convey the subtle differences between these and other works? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 00:20, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Gaps in the Borges article are not as urgent as are the surpluses...be that as it may, if there is reason to believe B. translated it, there's a place for that in the article (International Themes table). That information is probably in Efran Kristal's book on Borges & translation, which I don't have. Otherwise, the meta-category seems to be intertextuality. To oversimply only a little, literature about literature. Borges and koans are both "natural" references for that stub. I'd say Hesse normally is not but the Glass Bead Game (which I recently reread) is a clear exception. -user:munge 27 Nov 2004

iu.wikipedia

You know that there is an encyclopedia in Inuktitut? ᓯᕗᓕᑦᑕ ᐱᐅᓯᑐᖃᖏᑦ - Sivulitta piusituqangit, edited by ᑖᒧᓯ ᖁᒪᖅ Taamusi Qumaq. It was published in 1988 and is currently out of print. I saw a copy a couple years ago, but didn't buy it. I wish I had - it's a bear to get.

Qumaq also single-handedly wrote a dictionary in Inuktitut. He was an elder in Puvirnituq who died in 1993. I don't think he spoke either English or French, but he was remarkably politically active nonetheless. He wrote extensively about Inuit traditional culture. I imagine the Avataq Cultural Institute (http://www.avataq.qc.ca) must hold the copyright on his works. It would be a real boon if, since they aren't publishing them anyway, we might induce them to GFDL Qumaq's encyclopedia.

I'm doing a slow - but hopefully thorough - rewrite of all the articles pertaining to Canadian aboriginal languages that I know something about. Inuktitut and Inuktitut syllabics are next after I finish with Cree language and Cree syllabics. If you need to know something about Inuktitut as a language, I'm glad to help. But, I haven't spoken the language in 15 years and have only limited text resources. ᑏᑎᕉ 13:13, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Qumaq's dictionary sounds impressive! It would be wonderful if Wikipedia could get permission to use both the dictionary and the encyclopedia.... Do you think the publisher would be inclined to give permission in the interest of preservation?
Any help you can offer is appreciated; I doubt I'll be able to add much. I was more hopeful that I might be able to contribute sth before I found out my English - Inuit dictionary wasn't Inuktitut. At least it's a polysynthetic language; I'm really hazy on the grammar and inflection rules though.
I see you've started an account on iu:; good! Would you be interested in adminship? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 16:50, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Plurality

By the way, how are the dual and plural forms constructed from the singular? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 17:01, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

The most regular way:
inuk (sing) = a person or the person
inuuk (dual) = two people
inuit (plural) = more than two people
For raw nouns without other derivational or inflectional morphology, the dual is formed by dropping the final consonant, doubling the vowel before it, and then adding "-k". The plural is formed by deleting the final consonant and adding "-it".
However, nothing is that simple in Inuktitut.
First complication: Inuktitut has a rule that forbids triple length vowels. Thus, if a word already has two vowels or a double vowel before its final consonant, one of the two vowels has to go. For the dual, you just make the last vowel a single vowel. But for the plural, the "i" in "-it" disappears:
tui = shoulder; dual: tuik; plural: tuit
puuq = bag; dual: puuk; plural: puut
Also certain words have a hidden "i" at the end:
qukiut = gun; dual: qukiutiik; plural: qukiutiit
But then, there are problems of morphology:
Case Singular Dual Plural
Absolutive delete consonant + double vowel + k delete consonant + it
Genitive-ergative delete consonant + up delete consonant + double vowel + k delete consonant + it
Accusative nasalises consonant + mik delete consonant + double vowel + ngnit (or +rnik after q) nasalises consonant + nik
Locative nasalises consonant + mi delete consonant + double vowel + ngni (or +rni after q) nasalises consonant + ni
Ablative nasalises consonant + mit delete consonant + double vowel + ngnit (or +rnit after q) nasalises consonant + nit
Dative nasalises consonant + mut delete consonant + double vowel + ngnut (or +rnut after q) nasalises consonant + nut
Vialis
(prosecutive?)
delete consonant + kkut delete consonant + double vowel + kkut +tigut
Similaris
(essive)
+tut delete consonant + double vowel + ktut +titut
Those are the most common ways of handling number and case. Now remember that there is significant dialectical variation. This table reflects the conservative Kitikmeot dialects better than the south Baffin, Nunvik, Labrador and Greenland dialects.
Hope that helps.
ᑏᑎᕉ 19:49, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thanks! The last case there sounds like the essive case. Apparently, the one before it is called prosecutive case or vialis case. This all looks very regular. ^_^ User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 02:32, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
There is no consistently used terminology for the morphosyntactic components of Inuktitut. Spalding's categories are as standard as they get in Canada. If the Oqaasileriffik (http://www.oqaasileriffik.gl) has a set of official names, those would be as good as any. Diderot 05:57, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions.... I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too. --Ram-Man 14:37, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Hi, controversial bot-writing person!
I don't much care for copyright. Consider me recused from the whole silly licensing mess. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 15:06, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Toward fairness

Indeed, it is true that I can be quirky, eccentric, and occasionally flat-out wrong; but, as I am fond of asserting, the vast majority of the complaints against me step entirely from trumped-up charges, propaganda, and a egotistic effort on the part of the cabal to avoid admitting that it might be wrong about some things. I was banned for arguing too much; but in a lot of cases, I was right (for instance, Columbus did work as a slave-trader, it is POV to state Wilhelm I was stupid, and DNA is a nucleic acid). Lirath Q. Pynnor

  • What is most distressing in all this is not that Wikipedia tolerates trolls and other "problem users", but that it is even more willing to tolerate rude admins who consider themselves to be somewhat beyond the laws of Wikipedia — users who do not share the vast tolerance of the community, especially not when they are criticized (and far be it from them to be critical of their own actions).
You got it right there, the issue here is not whether or not my actions are appropriate or not (i admit, sometimes they are deliberately inappropriate); the issue is that admins can get away with far worse behavior. Lirath Q. Pynnor
Pity the community doesn't seem likely to improve any time soon. =/

Names in tsunami disaster

Hi there, I saw your post on the talk page for the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean (Talk:2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake).

You wrote "Yes. I don't see why the world's largest encyclopedia shouldn't try to list everybody." Exactly. very good point.

I was just wondering how to go ahead to be able to make a list of all the people that died in the disaster. I have beeb looking at the sep11 wiki, which I think is a wonderful project and just in the spirit of what I feel wikis can do. I think there should be some kind of system where people can set up similar projects for other disasters and I like the idea of the proposed wikimorial. There are some thinking yet to be done, but it would be good if we could have something up now as the events in the Indian Ocean are happening. any ideas what to do next? brandnewbrain 08:14, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

New Mathematics Wikiportal

I noticed you've done some work on Mathematics articles. I wanted to point out to you the new Mathematics Wikiportal- more specifically, to the Mathematics Collaboration of the Week page. I'm looking for any math-related stubs or non-existant articles that you would like to see on Wikipedia. Additionally, I wondered if you'd be willing to help out on some of the Collaboration of the Week pages.

I encourage you to vote on the current Collaboration of the Week, because I'm very interested in which articles you think need to be written or added to, and because I understand that I cannot do the enormous amount of work required on some of the Math stubs alone. I'm asking for your help, and also your critiques on the way the portal is set up.

Please direct all comments to my user-talk page, the Math Wikiportal talk page, or the Math Collaboration of the Week talk page. Thanks a lot for your support! ral315 02:54, Feb 11, 2005 (UTC)

  1. REDIRECT Template:Tl ==

For reference: Template:Code consists of <font class="code" id="{{{1}}}">{{{2}}}</font>.

Could you explain what this template does? I don't know much about templates, so pardon my ignorance. — Knowledge Seeker 02:35, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hehehe, I don't know what it was for either. It seems to not be used anymore, anyway. What it does, though, is to embed text (argument 2, or {{{2}}}) inside a font element having the "code" class and a customizable HTML id (argument 1, {{{1}}}), which might be given certain attributes through CSS, as by font.code or the like. Thus:
''{{code|code_example|text to be placed in the "code" class}}''
would produce:
{{{1}}}
...which probably doesn't display as anything interesting. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 22:50, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your response! In that case, would you mind if I changed it? I was thinking along the lines of <code><nowiki>{{{1}}}</nowiki></code>, to be called using something like {{subst:code|a [[wikilink]]}} or something. — Knowledge Seeker 05:32, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Oh, sure, go ahead. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 05:32, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

New template for chemical compounds, lists

Hi, I wanted to solicit your comments on the new "full sized" chembox, a draft version is on my talk page and the discussion is at the Chembox talk page. It uses the idea of a supplementary page to keep obscure data available but off the main page. Please give feedback! -- Walkerma 16:43, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

That's an interesting idea. Sounds good! I haven't been very active on here recently though... hope things turn out well. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 18:44, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

By the way, I am still picking away at the lists of compounds, that work should be complete soon. I am doing it by hand- trying to automate it would be impossible, but thanks for the offer you made! What I may want help with is in tracking down compounds that are not on the lists- I see many new ones going up, but hardly anyone is bothering to list their new pages. If we could go into all of the categories and pull out all of the pages and compare that against the lists, we would find a ton of things, but doing it by hand would be slow. Can we automatically generate a list of all articles in all subcats of Category:Chemical compounds? Thanks, Walkerma 16:43, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

Ee, that'd be a nice feature. It doesn't seem currently possible; Special:Whatlinkshere doesn't track categories aside from the [[:Category:...]] syntax. Maybe it would be worth mentioning on Mediazilla. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 18:44, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Mendelevium

Template:Mendelevium has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#Mendelevium. Thank you. Personally, I think we may want to work on this template and similar, if any. Obviously the nominator did not understand the reason for it. Let's see if we can improve it and document it properly. — Xiongtalk* 22:12, 2005 Jun 1 (UTC)

Thanks for mentioning this... the deletionists seem to be tilting at windmills; I don't see why they're wasting time here. There isn't any need to change the template — there's no better way to make a link to mendelevium that displays as Md. You may be right about the documentation though. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 01:39, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It doesn't, but it probably should. I suppose WikiProject Chemicals should have a list of all the templates as well. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 16:17, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Sounds useful. Also it seems to me that if a page uses a lot of those templates, subst'ing would be appropriate (even if I realize that kind of defeats the point of saving keystrokes...) Radiant_* 08:53, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)
Possibly, but subst: always seemed to me a feature useless except in rare situations. Templates are usually more readable, in part because the curly brackets distinguish them better than wikilinks' square brackets, and they're also easy to keep up to date; whereas subst: can easily dump lots of clutter into a page (such as with the {{vfd}} template). Less easily typed, longer to correct, less reliable, and less readable... for the most part, subst: just creates extra, needless work for the user, which is not at all how software should behave.
I'd actually created these templates exactly because I found some chemical pages obnoxious to read and edit, not so much because the templates were easier to type, so using subst: really would defeat the original purpose. ^_^; User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 12:03, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

RfA 2005

Hi, Eequor. :) I am hesitant to bring this up, but it has been 7 months since your failed adminship nomination. You currently have something like 12,179 edits according to Kate's tool (http://kohl.wikimedia.org/~kate/cgi-bin/count_edits.cgi), and you continue to make fantastic improvements to Wikipedia. You expressed an interest in maintenance issues, assisting with rolling back vandalism, and other administrative duties. Are you still interested?

Your previous nomination was very contentious, and I wouldn't want you to go through that again if you felt it wasn't worth it. I value your input as a Wikipedian, and I would very much like the honor of re-nominating you, but given the difficulty of the last time, I will understand if you are not interested.

If you accept, this is the pitch I will make:

Eequor joined Wikipedia on March 7, 2004, and since that time has amassed nearly 12,200 edits. She works in numerous article areas, and in particular has made extraordinary contributions to the WikiProjects on chemicals and on drugs. She has also made very fine contributions in the Image, Category, and Template namespaces. In short, she is a very fine all-around Wikipedian.
Now, the issue that I must bring up here is that this is Eequor's second nomination for adminship, with this being her first, from 7 months ago. A number of Wikipedians brought up issues that they had had with some of Eequor's actions from before that time. In the interest of full disclosure, I encourage everyone who would wish to vote here to read through the first nomination. It was highly contentious and became heated, not to mention somewhat tangential to the actual vote itself.
However, I would now ask that you carefully examine Eequor's edits during the 7 months since that nomination came to a close. I believe the primary issues raised were with Eequor's abilities to work with others and with what some perceived to be issues of maturity. It is my contention that in the 7 months since the last nomination, Eequor has met the high bar that one would expect for a potential administrator.
Note: I was very hesitant to make this re-nomination, because of the potential for a repeat of the heated nature of the first nomination...it is not something I would wish to put Eequor through again, so in the interest of civility and community consensus building, I have a request to make:
  • if you are voting to oppose, and
  • if you voted oppose for Eequor at her last nomination, and
  • if your reasons for voting oppose now are unchanged from the last time, (having made a careful re-evaluation of Eequor since the last nomination),
then I would ask that you simply say something along the lines of "oppose, same reasons", rather than restating and rehashing old arguments from more than 7 months ago. Thank you. func(talk) 17:17, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hey, that's good! Thanks. ^_^
Feel free to start another nomination... let's see what happens this time. User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 23:43, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
OK, kiddo!!! Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Eequor (2nd) I'm thinking good things about this. Good luck! :) func(talk) 00:16, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Lots of edits, not an admin

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. Since you've been previously nominated I added an '*' immediately before your name in this list. If for any reason you're NOT interested, my apologies and please remove the '*' (you could remove yourself also, if you'd like). I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to peruse this list. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:08, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the listing... maybe I needn't be there much longer. Perhaps bold would make previous nominations stand out better? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 00:08, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

RE: Request for adminship

I am going to support your nomination. -- Marmot

Thank you! User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 15:24, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Be careful, it could be an attempt to stop you voting. ;-) the wub "?/!" 11:12, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Quick query re your RFA

I have an overal positive impression of you, even so, I'd like some extra information, if you have some time?

Could you provide some references/diffs on your answers to questions? I'm always especially interested in question 3 (re: conflicts) could you point to some conflicts you've been in, and how you handled them?

Kim Bruning 22:51, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The only major conflict that comes to mind is the User:CheeseDreams debacle. Mainly I did what I could to determine the extent of the damage she had done and made sure the other users affected were aware of the requests for comments and arbitration regarding her. A lot of that has been collected at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/CheeseDreams/Evidence.
Regarding the other questions, which parts would you like references for? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 23:33, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
That's good enough for me, Thanks! Don't forget to put that up on the RFA page too! If you like, please see bishonen too if she still has questions. You'll find that depending on how you answer her, you might manage to win over some of the neutrals.
Kim Bruning 23:46, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
You're welcome. Who is bishonen, by the way? User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 00:15, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I don't quite understand Raul654s concerns, can you address them? A lot of people look at his comments very carefully! :)
Finally, it might be possible to discuss issues with AlexTM.
Kim Bruning 23:46, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I think Raul654 is referring to the Bulgaria thing (I'd felt a rumored reactor leak was worthy for In the news), but I'm not really sure either. Thanks for your comments! User:Eequor/Signature/Syllabic 00:15, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm, I'd like to contact you privately, could you send an email to me at my wikimail address,or could you maybe come on irc? (irc.freenode.net #wikipedia) Kim Bruning 00:02, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Clique

I've just been reading through your archives. Wow. I hadn't realised there was anyone pushing the rather improbable thesis that there are no cliques on Wikipedia.

Sorry that your RFA is going to fail. You should probably consider using a sockpuppet next time! — Chameleon 12:25, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

To pass Go and collect $200 ...

Wikipedia is based on consensus, it's *not* a numbers game, however, sometimes people draw lines, and in this case here's the line that needs to be crossed;

To gain admin, you must at this point, either:

  • Gain 44 support votes, and no more opposes.
  • Win over 3 or 4 people who are currently opposing

Each opposer you can win over is worth 4 additional supports.

If you actually do win over opposers, then that alone might show that you have some aptitude for this adminship thing ;-)

Ok, that's the theory, here's the practical next step:

Check Raul654's current request.

"Eequor - please discuss a dispute (or near-dispute) you have had with someone where you think you aquitted yourself particularly well. In particular, what qualities did you display that would be good qualities in an admin?"

I had this same question but found some answers in your edit history, you still need to convince Raul though (that and that's the actual question 3 in the questions for the candidate section). Could you provide an example of a conflict that you handled well, in the sense that Raul654 means? Also see some stuff on my user talk where people have answered the same question.

A good answer will leave you needing just 40 votes total, with 7 left to go (at time of writing). See if you can improve it further! ;)

Good luck! :-) Kim Bruning 10:10, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Poll ( Macedonian Slav or Macedonian)

I hope that this message is of interest to you, if not please accept my apologies. There is a poll in the talk page of the 'Macedonian Slavs' article here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Macedonian_Slavs#The_poll

Some people are lobbying for changing the article's name to Macedonians without any qualifier. As it seems, a number of these people come from the Macedonian/Macedonian Slav wikipedia project. It seemed only fair to attract the attention of people possibly from the other side of the story. Your contributions to the discussion and the poll are welcomed.

Time to bail out

This RFA won't fly no more, check oppose votes 15 and 16. This is the kind of comment you actually want to pre-empt. You're on fire, eject! :-(

It's not good to push on despite causing this amount of trouble. :-/ I reccomend leaving a polite message withdrawing your candidacy at this point in time. :-)

No worries though. Let's try again in a month or so. We got a lot of issues solved this time round, but the RFA itself has become too tangled. Doing a fresh nomination later might give us a much cleaner picture. And you'll likely pass that one, seeing the nature of the votes this time around.

Fair deal?

Kim Bruning 12:46, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Kim, I respectfully disagree. Eequor is representing herself well, and she should continue to do so, (but don't stress yourself out, Eequor...this is so much more heated than I thought it would be, and I feel really bad about it). func(talk) 16:12, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Well the problem is that there's always a lot of inertia in these things. Once oppose votes start stacking up, it's very hard to keep stopping them. "Sticking it out" can actually hurt a person more than help at this stage, and pulling out in itself often does a lot of good. See Ta Bu Shi Da Yu for an example!
In a situation like this where a person is representing themselves well, despite heated opposition, pulling out and going a 2nd round a month later can have much better results, since a lot of people will see how the person did. No harm in waiting either. It makes a good impression.
The objective here is to prove you are suited for adminship, not to stick it out against all odds!
