User:Taxman

I've been reading everything I could get my hands on since the age of 5, so I was very excited to learn about the Wikipedia project. I like the idea of trying to dump everything encyclopedic that I know into Wikipedia, and contributing whatever else I can to make the end result better. I am often described by those that know me as having an insatiable curiosity.

I am now an administrator here on Wikipedia and I take that seriously in order to try to help Wikipedia advance and keep it free from people that would try to hold that back. If there is something you feel I can help with, leave me a message on my talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Taxman&action=edit) and I will see what I can do. Consider that there may be better places to get the help you need though.

I have a degrees in economics and the mathematics of finance, but here are some other areas I might be able to contribute usefully in:

finance, securities, derivatives, planning, tax law, retirement plans, etc; economics; outdoors, camping, survival, hiking, knots, scouting, woodworking, etc; sales and management; business, risk management and insurance; FreeBSD, Linux other free unices and open source software; computer security concepts; cooking; some travel and a bit of Spanish, though certainly others know much more than I about all of these.

As you can see I tend to be very eclectic in my interests, and I edit in an even wider range at times. So far I'm most proud of my contributions to the risk management and biodiesel articles, some of the generalizations I've done of overly specific article introductions, helping a number of articles reach featured article status, and adding constructive criticism to others through the featured article candidates process. I also do a lot of the administrative tasks on the peer review page.

I don't have the time to contribute to Wikipedia that I would like to and that some others do, but I expect to be a long term contributor. I am excited about being involved in the relatively early stages of something that I think will grow to be very important, something that naysayers will no longer be able to deny the value of.

Sometimes I am terse in comments and I have very high standards for what should be a featured article which irks some people, but it is all in the name of a better and more reliable Wikipedia so that it can eventually be relevant in the real world.

Current project

I'm currently working on making sure all of the featured articles meet the current featured article criteria. The most critical problem is with poorly researched and cited articles. I have compiled a list of featured articles with possible references problems. Please help by finding the best applicable sources, using them to fact check the material in the articles and cite them properly.
