As for who I am? Well, I'm a writing/history double major at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC, which makes me less than qualified compared to most of the contributors around here. This fills me with shame, but I do know a thing or two, and in spaces where there are holes, I intend to fill them. After all, a little bit of knowledge is better than none at all.
Things I've Already Done:
- Sir Gordon Drummond, British (well, Canadian) War of 1812 general and Lieutenant-Governor of what became Ontario
- added tidbits to the pages of all the Premiers of Alberta (usually just a little table). Hopefully I'll someday be able to fill in what are, with one exception, basically stubs with some images and more information.
- Stephen Van Rensselaer III, more commonly called just Stephen Van Rensselaer, American War of 1812 general and general doer of stuff.
- translated Jean-Jacques Pelletier from French to English. Woot.
- plentiful rewrite of the War of 1812's Battle of Queenston Heights, turning it from a summary into a real account. Even if it got bled on in peer editing because I'm, you know, blind.
- posted at 18:12 UTC on a votes-for-deletion debate, which is a great thrill to me because I'm a War of 1812 fan even though that's possibly the stupidest thing ever recorded in the history of man but it's my darned user page so let me have it, pretty please?
- lotsa stuff on HMCS Chicoutimi, a submarine most famous for lighting on fire. This is probably the least actually-by-me of any of the things listed here, but since I actually write very little around here, I choose to list it anyway.
- my personal, slowly on-going project to give the Canadian Navy the Wikipedia coverage it deserves. I mean, looking at the Royal and American navies, I can't help but be a little jealous, so it's my objective for all the active service ships in the CN to have articles before I'm done.
- the first version of the HMCS Halifax article, because I was inspired while I was poking around the Chicoutimi article that there aren't very many good pages on the Canadian navy. What with the Halifax being our most important boat of the last 20 years, I figured it deserved an article.
- the first version of the HMCS Vancouver article. It's really quite hard to find much good information on Canadian naval vessels, but I'm trying, dammit.
- the 53rd National Hockey League All-Star Game. Hockey is good.
Any questions? Comments? Address them to my talk page! Somebody once edited this page to make a comment and I didn't see it until much after it had been edited.
Also, if you're much compelled to, visit my godawful website at http://www.benmassey.ca where my random thoughts are posted from time to time. That was a shameless plug, wasn't it?
