United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names
|
The United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names takes place every five years at United Nations Headquarters in New York. It might also be conducted at a different place, if a country offers to host the conference and to pay the additional expenditures which are caused to the United Nations by holding the Conference away from Headquarters. It is a part of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
The most recent was the Eighth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names, which was held in 2002 in Berlin, Germany.
Each country may send a delegation. Members of these delegations are mainly Experts on Geographical Names from their respective countries.
