The Town of Unadilla is located in the southwest corner of Otsego County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a population of 4,548. The name is derived from an Iroquois word for "meeting place." The Village of Unadilla is located within the town.

History
The first settlement occurred around 1770 in the area of Sidney, followed by Undadilla. Both Sidney and Unadilla were destroyed during the American Revolution and were re-established after the war.
Geography
The Unadilla town lines are as follows:
- The northern line borders the Town of Butternuts in Otsego County.
- The eastern line borders the Town of Otego in Otsego County.
- The southern line lies along Susquehanna River, bordering the Town of Sidney in Delaware County.
- The western line lies along the Unadilla River, bordering the towns of Bainbridge and Guilford in Chenango County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 120.8 km² (46.6 mi²). 120.2 km² (46.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.51% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,548 people, 1,810 households, and 1,272 families residing in the town. The population density is 37.8/km² (98.0/mi²). There are 2,101 housing units at an average density of 17.5/km² (45.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.14% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,810 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.94.
In the town the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.4 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $34,619, and the median income for a family is $40,556. Males have a median income of $29,817 versus $21,732 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,908. 12.8% of the population and 9.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 18.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
