USS Prometheus (Star Trek)

USS Prometheus is the name of several starships in the fictional universe of Star Trek.
The first USS Prometheus (NCC-71201) was a Nebula class starship in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Second Sight". Named for the character of Prometheus from Greek mythology, the starship Prometheus was used by Dr. Gideon Seyetik in his project to reignite the dead star Epsilon 119 circa stardate 47329.4 in 2370.
The second USS Prometheus (NX-74913) is the prototype for a new kind of starship in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Message in a Bottle". First launched on stardate 50749.5 (2373) from the Antares Shipyards after over a decade of extensive development by the Advanced Starship Design Bureau at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars.
The Prometheus was the first ship to be equipped with a "Tactical Multi-Vector Assault Separation" which enabled the vessel to separate into three fully independent vehicles during a battle, and reconvene and reconnect after the mission is completed. This separation is similar to the saucer separation of a Galaxy class starship which did not require the use of a Starbase to reconnect the parts of the vessel (of course that separation was designed only for emergency use and not necessarily intended for use in battle, even if the Enterprise-D's ability to do this was used for that purpose on more than one occasion).
In 2374, the vessel was properly commissioned and started testing missions before it was commandeered by the Romulan Tal Shiar. Due to the collaboration of two Starfleet Emergency Medical Holograms, one being from the USS Voyager, the ship was successful retaken by Starfleet. It was on this mission that Starfleet learned that the Voyager was not lost as previously assumed for the past four years.
Although seen onscreen as registry NX-59650, the vessel is clearly of newer design and so it is assumed that the higher number - seen on the ship's dedication plaque - represents the correct registry.
