UNLA (Uganda National Liberation Army) is the military arm of the Uganda National Liberation Front (UNLF). The UNLF was formed by exiled Ugandans in the late 1970s. It was the Ugandan force that fought side-by-side with the Tanzanian People's Defence Force (TPDF) to topple from power the regime of Idi Amin in Uganda.
After the overthrow of Amin on 11th April 1979, the UNLA became the national army of Uganda until it was defeated on 25th January 1986 by the guerrillas of the National Resistance Army (NRA) led by Yoweri Museveni.
